@Jimi007 Yeah the zero is too slow for Amiga, it also struggled with 32X.

I found that out the hard way after setting up a "MicroMiggy" using one and only realised at the end that its too slow.

I think the default emulator is lr-snes9x-2010.
Try installing using lr-snes9x, (latest 1.60(?)) found in optional packages.

The patch needs to be applied to a non-headered rom, though if it is working at all then it is probably the right one.

You can use 7zip to check the CRC-32.
      The patched rom should have
      CRC32 9C0C7C6B
And the non-headered without patch should be.
      CRC32 C17ECBA5

The patch can be applied with lunar-ips. Or if the .ips patch shares the same name as the .sfc then snes9x will load the patch sidebyside without needing to change the japanese non-headered rom.

If you both patch the rom and the patch is loaded sidebyside then it might do something like you described. This only if the .ips shares the same name and is in the same folder and it has additionally been patched with lunarips.

Compatibility varies with the different versions of snes9x, there is a good chance that is all that you need.

So while the update didn't cause an endless loop of file system checking, I now have this.

It's because systemd updates break auto-login - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#why-emulationstation-doesnt-start-automatically-after-an-update for an explanation and solution.

Thanks for testing this, it means the original problem is solved by updating the Raspbian packages.

      Thanks! That did the trick.

      Hey, @markyh444 , cheers!

@markyh444 said in Saturn 6 Button Portable Pi:

@cole_eliot good luck. I tried to put a Pi Zero into a MK2 pad and ended up having to mount it on the back instead as there was nowhere near enough room for me to mount inside.
Yeah, I could see if have no chance there, I'm thinking a botched, non-standard, undercarriage that doesn't give me too much width and it'll be fine. As long as I can leverage the screws, etc, on the original pads casings, then I might be ok.
It is a really well built pad though, and well worth an attempt to turn into a handheld.

If you need any ideas, link to my project site is below.

Aye. As you can tell, I'm pretty fond of it.

I'll definitely go check out your site, I imagine I'll come across half the nasty issues that you did, too. I may also steal your ideas! Thanks!

For a really rough sketch of what I'm trying to do here (I'm no artist!):
      crap drawing
      ibb link
      Obviously missing its curves 😉

I'm thinking if I make it longer (at the pad end) to keep the screen central, I could get more room inside to keep it slimmer.

Look, it's not going to be pretty, but if I can get something vaguely presentable (might have to go matt finish), which works, then I'm on to a winner, and I'll consider making another but a bit more ... well made ;-)

@abnorm999 Looks like a button mapping problem, the hotkey is either always active or you've unset it and then start acts as an exit key, though I don't think this would happen with a recent RetroPie version.
Re-map your button, skip the Hotkey mapping using a long press on A, then - when asked - choose to use Select as Hotkey. If that doesn't work, then please add more info as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first and add the joypad .cfg file from /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads.

I installed a new SD card today in my new system. So new flash on a 3B board and I downloaded all my games to it. Most systems I already have a gamelist.xml file but there were a few new systems I loaded due to having more space on the new SD card.

I just used the built-in scraper for 3 different systems - Master System, Gameboy and Atari 5200. It worked fine and was very fast too.

EDIT: I installed the Selph scraper right after posting this and re-scraped Gameboy and Gameboy Color romsets. It worked fine. I had to change the console source to screenscraper and it downloaded videos. Everything seems fine here.

Well, all is well. It worked and worked perfectly. The saved games were there and ready to go. They loaded and played without issue, though it's a bit different playing them on the Zero than it is on the 3 B+, of course. Lower resolution and the startup takes a bit longer.

Right now I'm updating Emulation Station so that I can get the scraper working properly, which went fairly quickly with the Pi 3 B+, but is taking forever with the Zero. It's chugging along, though.

Thanks for you help, everyone. I truly do appreciate it. :)

@yahmez Interesting build. What are you running for emulators ? Just out of curiosity, do you find it's easy to see such a small screen playing , and how long does the battery last ? Nice of you to provide the schematics.

For emulators, anything with the old school standard button layout of of d-pad, a, b, start, and select. The screen is tiny but Gameboy and Gameboy color are perfect. NES is pretty good although text is pretty much unreadable unless you're very familiar with the game. I've been using only NES games which I'm familiar with. The battery lasts about an hour and with the power boost I can charge and play at the same time.
